Synopsis

Share Alike seeks out artists who use free licences for their creations. These licences are based on sharing, freedom and a direct relationship between creators and the public. While cultural consumption is booming and production is increasing, the majority of artists remain in a precarious position. Faced with the industrialisation of art, these people are developing alternatives and see them as a breath of fresh air, despite a great deal of resistance.

Share Alike deconstructs the dominant models of creation by giving a voice to those who seek to transform the conditions of exchange of their works and imagine alternative economies based on sharing.

Sharing Community

With Morjiane Benzitouni/ Mystique (DJ) and Angie Gaudion (public relations officer for Framasoft)

Marseille-based DJ Mystique takes us into her musical world of samples and mixtapes to discover the culture of sharing and its values. For her, it’s clear that music is political.

Let it go

Claustinto and Koji have broken free from the traditional rules of the cultural industry to put on a show based on a well-known musical.political.

The wall

The cultural industry does not hesitate to prevent alternatives from emerging, as Joseph Paris, who has been involved in the industry for many years, has observed.

War is peace, sharing is privatisation

The tools used to enforce intellectual property rights on the internet impact everyone, including Rose, who can no longer publish her music on the platforms.

The art of profitability

The Polynome collective seeks to go beyond copyright, which only reinforces inequalities in society.

For your eyes only

It’s not easy to get paid for your work when you’re a creator, like Simon aka Gee, who is doing his best to build an economic model around his many free creative practices.

Neither blue pill nor red pill

The Bye Bye Binary collective outlines a history of free licences and shows us how they can be a tool of resistance, while remaining lucid about their limitations.

Together, impossible is nothing

Directly and collectively financing creation shifts decision-making power, as exemplified by David Revoy’s Pepper & Carrot community, which participates in his creative process.

Free and alternative creation exists, but there still needs to be spaces where it can be seen and where creators and audiences can meet. Cinéma Voyageur offers some ideas.
